Our
philosophy on saddle fitting is deeply rooted in BALANCE.
Balance
for the rider begins with balance of the saddle. As most people
know, the saddle must be balanced on the horse but the seat must
also be balanced for the rider or riding can be very uncomfortable.
All too often riders think they must endure the pain of a saddle
that does not fit them correctly. At Saddlery Solutions we know
you can have your cake and eat it to... your saddle should fit you
and your horse.
Here's how...
Each
of our saddles, whether custom or semi-custom, are fit to the measurements
of your horse. We take measurements of the horse's back in several
different places. We then match those measurements to create the
appropriate curvature of the tree. Because our saddles are made
in our workshop we can manipulate the tree before we build the saddle
around it. The great advantage to doing it this way is we are able
to make changes to the tree without compromising the structure of
the tree or the saddle unlike when the tree is made wider or more
narrow mechanically once the saddle is finished. The tree is the
skeleton of the sa
ddle and once the saddle is finished the tree
can only be adjusted within a very small margin without having adverse
effects to the saddle as a whole. Whether or not a saddle fits or
is balanced on a horse's back is a reflection of the structure of
the tree.
Next,
exstensive measurements are taken of the rider to determine the
rise of their pubic bone, the distance from their pelvis to seat
bones, and distance from seat bone to seat bone. These measurements
are emmensely valuable for determining the rise of the pommel, the
width of the twist, and the depth of the seat. From these measurements
the seat is created allowing the rider to be positioned with their
balance point right over the balance of their horse's back.
